I love the prairie! So often I have seen the dawn come and the light flood over the land and everything turn radiant at once, that word “good” so profoundly affirmed in my soul that I am amazed I should be allowed to witness such a thing.

Tenderland Journal

Tenderland Journal

Grasslands are one of the fastest disappearing ecosystems on the planet.

The founders of TLJ are asking WHY?

  • Why do we not esteem the grasslands in the same way that we esteem the forests and mountains, the oceans and coral reef?

  • How is it with such awe-inspiring skies and vast geography, we find ourselves overburdened with antiquated ideas and attitudes about our own landscape?

  • Is the history of the prairies truly reducible to its bare economic potential?

The Tenderland Journal’s goal is to offer up a different perspective on the prairies, one that seeks to reattune us to

its voice

its mystery…

its beauty

More Book Than Magazine.

An annual publication revealing the beauty of the prairies to all who have eyes to see, the TLJ will celebrate and question what it means to be of this land through articles, stories, photo essays, art, and poetry.

Describing the landscape is not enough. The individual, the community, the land are inextricable in the process of creating history. Landscape is a character in this process.
